Challenging winter ahead for the NHS, watchdog warns

NHS Improvement states the NHS will struggle to cope with the busiest months of the year, as hospitals have failed to free up beds. With winter approaching, it is likely to prove difficult for hospitals. Jeremy Hunt has commented that since Spring there has been some success in reducing numbers of delayed discharges from hospital beds. But, the numbers will still not help hospitals copes with the extra winter demand.

Efforts have been made by NHS England and NHSI to support and help the NHS prepare for winter, but concerns still arise. The increasing number of patients who will need to be admitted to hospital as an emergency, will mean winter could prove even harder than the last.
