Publishing of Green Paper paused whilst Government ‘take time’ to work with care leaders.

The Green Paper, originally planned to be published in the Autumn of this year, is now planned to be published in Summer 2018. The Government wish to take ‘the time needed’ to work with care leaders to shape its Green Paper on social care.

The Cabinet Office Minister Damian Green, said: –

“An ageing population needs a long-term solution for care, but building a sustainable support system will require some big decisions.

“In developing the Green Paper, it is right that we take the time needed to debate the many complex issues and listen to the perspectives of experts and care users, to build consensus around reforms which can succeed.”

The Green Paper will set out plans for how Government proposes to improve older people’s care. Charity officials have commented that it will only be helpful if it ‘results in a fundamental reform to the social care system’. Unfortunately, change and funding are needed now. But, whilst we wait, let’s hope there will be increased funding for social care in the Autumn budget and the paper delivers the changes social care so desperately needs.
