Duncan is an independent management consultant and trainer. He is a voluntary director of the Lincolnshire Care Association. Duncan has 40 years’ experience in child and adult social care which includes: 6 years as an independent consultant and trainer; 15 years in residential child care and management; 18 years in regulating/management of care services (CQC and previous bodies); and 2 years as a Senior Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin Polytechnic teaching inspectors at postgraduate level.
Duncan provides support and guidance to adult social care providers and managers to not only become compliant with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, but to achieve and sustain higher standards. Much of his work has been to provide training and support to companies, individual owners, managers, care associations and county councils.
Duncan works with services to review and bring about change to ensure they are keeping up with current changes and expectations, particularly from CQC including KLOEs, Ratings, CQC methodology, HSCA 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and the Care Act 2014 with a key emphasis on Human Rights.
Duncan has clear philosophies which underpin his work to maximise the impact on the business, staff and services provided. Key aspects of this relate to: changing culture within a service or organisation, where necessary; changing staff perspective and understanding; developing a sense of ownership and responsibility; reflection on values and practice; motivation and inspiration; creating a learning culture; linking theory to practice and de-mystifying and empowering staff and management.
