Neil has worked in health and social care law since qualifying as a solicitor in 1992. He has developed a national reputation in the field of regulatory compliance and risk management relating to health and social care providers across the public, private and voluntary sectors. His portfolio of work spans hospitals and clinics, care homes, children’s homes, home care providers, nurseries and educational facilities. Prior to joining Ridouts, Neil acted for a number of national regulators, including the Care Quality Commission, as well as major providers in both the public and private sectors.
Neil is experienced in dealing with all types of regulatory action taken against providers, including urgent cancellations, regulatory prosecutions and appeals to the Crown Court, Tribunal and High Court. He is also an experienced advocate, appearing before the Tribunal and Magistrates’ Courts on many occasions over the last 18 years.
In addition, Neil advises providers on entry to the regulated care system. In the corporate sector, Neil has undertaken regulatory due diligence work in relation to major acquisitions and disposals and advised on the structuring of start-up schemes from the regulatory perspective.
At the same time, Neil is a published author on care standards regulation and has staged regular conferences and seminars across the sector.
Prior to entering the law, Neil gained a degree in History from Oxford University. After a period working in Spain, he studied law at Bristol before qualifying into a large West End law firm working for Paul Ridout. Some 13 years on, Neil is delighted to be working again with Paul in offering a tailored and specialist service to health and social care providers
