Changes to Criminal Record Bureau applications come into force

Topics covered: Ridouts professional advice

As of 12 November 2012 any orders for criminal check application forms will be sent Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) application forms as part of the re-branding of the CRB into the DBS.  The DBS will officially launch on 1 December 2012.  This is all part of the reforms of the criminal records regime under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012.

The old CRB application forms will still be accepted until 28 February 2013.  After 1 December 2012 all application forms processed will be issued with DBS certificates.

The DBS has been formed through the merging of both the CRB and the ISA to create a new Non-Departmental Public Body.  This will carry out both the CRB’s and ISA’s functions.

On the 1 December the DBS’s website will go live, until then you should continue to visit the current CRB or ISA websites for guidance and information about criminal record checks or ISA barring and referrals.
