Both children’s and adults’ social services will be affected by Northamptonshire County Council’s decision to approve “radical cuts” to authority spending. Spending on learning difficulties in adults’ services will be decreased and there will be more scrutiny with the number of referrals and numbers within the children’s care systems.
Despite this, safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and the needs of older people, were highlighted as priorities for spending. Contracts with third party suppliers would also be reviewed as they currently made up 70% of spending for the council.
This news will not come as a surprise for the sector, with council spending and budgets being a common topic in the media at the moment.
