The King’s Fund loses its Chair

Topics covered: Jaime Streete, Kings Fund, NHS

King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust’s Chair resigns in protest over underfunding of health care services. According to the Guardian, Lord Kerslake contended that due to severe Government underfunding that ‘hospitals cannot perform their key role properly’.

Since taking on responsibility for Bromley’s Princess Royal University hospital in 2014, the Trust has struggled to cope alongside external factors such as the increasing demand of patients and the unrealistic financial expectations on part of the Government. Lord Kerslake is not the only one who seems to be disappointed by the Government not being able to fund the NHS properly.

Lord Kerslake has recommended that there be a proper cross-party review as not only are Ministers in denial about the reality of how much extra money the NHS requires but as a result, every hospital in London is struggling.
