Providers urged to review their fire safety precautions after London Fire Brigade finds serious fire failures in the majority of care homes in London.
Debbie Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of adult social care at CQC for the London region, has said it is the responsibility of those people running care homes to ensure their fire safety precautions are in place, in order to keep people safe.
London Fire Brigade has written to each care home within London, asking them to urgently review their fire risk assessments, emergency plans and staff training. 177 care homes have been inspected across London to review the level of fire risk. The findings saw 29 per cent had failures relating to fire doors, 10 per cent had inadequate training for staff and managers and 14 per cent showed evidence of poor emergency planning.
In line with what Ms Ivanova said, providers are advised to review their fire training for staff and ensure that their emergency plans are kept-up-to-date and to carry out frequent checks of premises and equipment.
