Public Health England guidance “COVID-19 How to work safely in care homes” renamed COVID-19 Personal protective equipment (PPE) – resource for care workers working in care homes during sustained COVID-19 transmission in England and “COVID19 How to work safely in domiciliary care in England” renamed COVID-19 Personal protective equipment (PPE) – resource for care workers delivering homecare (domiciliary care) in England has been updated.
On 5 June 2020, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care announced that all hospital staff would need to continuously wear a surgical facemask whilst at work, and visitors would need to wear face coverings. The announcement also indicated that the same approach was being considered for social care.
Changes to this guidance to reflect this announcement are being considered and will be incorporated in the next update. However, the resource has been updated as an interim measure.
Changes and updates to the resource include:
- incorporation of recommendation (July 2020) for the use of face masks and coverings in care homes to prevent COVID-19 transmission
- adding a third table has been added
- additional questions and answers have been added (Questions 4, 31-34(care homes) and 34-37 (homecare)) including adapting advice provided by NHS England for hospital settings to this context
- updates to some existing questions and answers have been made.
