Repeated calls to Theresa May to set up convention to tackle health and social care

Topics covered: Ridouts professional advice

Norman Lamb, the former minister for health, has repeated calls on the Government to set up a convention or taskforce to address the long-term funding issues in the sector in light of an ageing population.

The calls have cross-party support and include support from former health secretaries and importantly Sarah Woolaston, the Conservative chair of the Health Select Committee.

In light of calls for increased immediate funding from the Royal College of Physicians and the daily news of problems within the health and social care sector, it is hoped that this does gather broader support.  The fear is that the Government is preoccupied with Brexit and this crisis will continue to fail to receive adequate attention.
