Social Care Cap Favoured over New Tax

Topics covered: government, health and social care law

The Care Minister Caroline Dinenage has confirmed that the government is currently more inclined to introduce a cap on social care costs, rather than implement ‘new taxes.’

In an exclusive interview with carehome.co.uk, the minister disregarded the idea of a new ‘over-40’ tax, which would help pay for social care.

On the issue, the care minister had this to say:-

“In developing the green paper, we are drawing on best practice of what works abroad to create a diverse, vibrant and stable English care market; but we also need to ensure that individuals are supported with the costs of their care, in a way that is fair to all generations – we’re therefore looking predominantly at proposals for a cap rather than new taxes.”
