Gerry Kennedy

Gerry is an independent healthcare consultant. He specialises in providing support to general practitioners in the NHS and independent healthcare sector, consultant doctors in all health specialities and care homes preparing for CQC registration. He has registered, inspected and supported over 700 healthcare providers and first-time applicants through the CQC registration and inspection process. Gerry is a registered nurse by professional background, with over 36 years’ clinical andmanagerial experience and has worked extensively in the regulation and inspection of healthcare services in the UK. He has previously worked as Senior Assessment Manager/Inspector with CQC (and previous Healthcare Commission) in England, and Regional Inspector with Healthcare Improvement Scotland.

For first time CQC applicants, Gerry can assist in the preparation of necessary documents such as the Statement of Purpose, individualised policies and procedures, supporting documents including risk assessments, complaints procedures, satisfaction questionnaires and staff recruitment checklists. He also provides support with the planning of new build or refurbishment of healthcare premises.

For health and social care providers already registered with CQC, Gerry provides an ongoing support service of updating policies and supporting documents, regular onsite mock inspections, and assessing key areas scrutinised during a CQC inspection. These include assessing whether the service is Safe, Effective, Responsive, Caring, and Well-led. After each mock inspection, an inspection report is produced highlighting areas of strength and recommended areas for improvement, within set timescales. The reports can be helpful in providing tangible evidence that a service is being independently monitored alongside the provider’s own internal quality monitoring/governance arrangements.
