Update on CQC’s regulatory approach

Topics covered: Ridouts professional advice

There will be some changes with CQC’s regulatory approach from January 2022. The CQC:

  • Is aiming to complete 1000 infection prevention control (IPC) inspections.
  • Aims to respond rapidly to requests to set up new Designated Settings.
  • With the aim of creating additional capacity in the system, will inspect registered services who have not yet been rated and services currently rated as Requires Improvement to identify improvement and re-rate where possible.

What remains unchanged is the CQC will continue to inspect only where there is a clear risk to safety.

The CQC has said that it will continue to keep its approach under review and update providers of any changes.
