Care sector has highest staff turnover of all sectors in the UK

Topics covered: Ridouts professional advice

Given that recruiting and retaining staff within the social care sector is difficult, it should not come as a surprise that it has the highest staff turnover rate of all sectors in the UK. According to the “Social Care Workforce Study”, completed recently, in order to meet the increasing demand of staff, there would need to be around half a million new care staff.

In light of the staff shortages in the care sector, The Care Association Alliance has called on the government to consider its post-Brexit immigration proposals. Talks have been made about a social care visa which would be available to people working in that sector. It is without doubt that the sector is in dire need of more staff to help with the increasing demand of an aging population. The current reliance on European staff needs to be given more importance by the government.
