Government launches social care taskforce

On 26 June 2020 the Government issued more information about the members and terms of reference (TOR) of its Social Care Sector COVID-19 Support Taskforce.

The taskforce has been set up to ensure the delivery of the following Government’s Social Care Action Plan and Care Home Support Package.

The TOR are rather sparse, but they do state that the taskforce’s purpose is to “ensure that concerted and determined action is taken to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in the sector both for those who rely on care and support and the social care workforce”.

The taskforce will consider the impact of COVID-19 on the care sector over the next year and will advise on a plan to support the sector throughout this period.

It will be chaired by David Pearson CBE, former president of ADASS, social care COVID-19 lead for the NHS and TEC Quality Chair for the TSA, a representative body for technology-enabled care. The taskforce is also made up of representatives from Public Health England, the Care Quality Commission, Care Providers Alliance, Local Government Association, Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, Unison, Healthwatch England, Ministry of Housing Communities & Local Government, Cabinet Office and the Department of Health and Social Care.
